F5 LTM Pool Member

F5 LTM Pool Member Availability State Monitor

Id Comtrade.F5.BigIp.LTM.Monitoring.LTMPoolMember.Availability.UnitMonitor
Display Name F5 LTM Pool Member Availability State Monitor
Description Monitors whether the BIG-IP local traffic pool member is in either RED, BLUE, YELLOW or BLACK state on any of BIG-IP devices in a Sync-Failover group. Local Traffic Pool Members can have different states on different devices.
Knowledge Article
Summary

Monitor will trigger critical alert if a critical state is found on device where the pool member is active. For some device from a Sync Failover group to be active for that pool member, the pool member needs to belong to a pool that belongs to a virtual server assigned to a traffic group active on that device. In case where pool member belongs to pool that does not belong to any virtual server, each device from Sync Failover group then represents active device for that pool member.

Configuration

The following configuration parameters are customizable:

Debug When true, writes more information into event log. Default value is false.
Use Cache If true, cache will be used, in order to minimize impact of monitoring on the F5 BIG-IP device. Default value is true.
Update Interval in Seconds Recurring scheduled interval in seconds used for running the workflow. Default value is 300 seconds.
Synchronization Time Synchronization time in a 24-hour format. No default value is specified.
Timeout Seconds Timeout in seconds. This value is used for setting timeout value to access the F5 BIG-IP device. Default value is 270 seconds.
Monitor Red State In case that this parameter is set to true, the alert will be created if the pool member is in state Red. RED state means that the pool member is unavailable because either the parent node is down, a monitor has marked the pool member as down, or a user has disabled the pool member. Default value is true.
Monitor Blue State In case that this parameter is set to true, the alert will be created if the pool member is in state Blue. BLUE state means that the pool member or node has no monitor associated with it, or no monitor results are available yet. Default value is true.
Monitor Yellow State In case that this parameter is set to true, the alert will be created if the pool member is in state Yellow. YELLOW state means that the pool member is unavailable, but could become available later with no user interaction required. Default value is true.
Monitor Black State In case that this parameter is set to true, the alert will be created if the pool member is in state Black. BLACK state means that the pool member is set to Disabled. See the monitor knowledge for possible causes. Default value is true.

F5 LTM Pool Availability State Monitor

Id Comtrade.F5.BigIp.LTM.Monitoring.LTMPool.Availability.UnitMonitor
Display Name F5 LTM Pool Availability State Monitor
Description Monitors whether the BIG-IP local traffic pool member is in either RED, BLUE or YELLOW state on any of BIG-IP devices in a Sync-Failover group. Local Traffic Pool Members can have different states on different devices.
Knowledge Article
Summary

Monitor will trigger critical alert if a critical state is found on any device where the pool is active. For some device member of Sync Failover group to be active for the pool, the pool needs to belong to a virtual server assigned to a traffic group active on that device. In case when pool does not belong to any virtual server, each device from Sync Failover group is considered active device for that pool.

Configuration

The following configuration parameters are customizable:

Debug When true, writes more information into event log. Default value is false.
Use Cache If true, cache will be used, in order to minimize impact of monitoring on the F5 BIG-IP device. Default value is true.

Description Monitors the pool for the percentage of available pool members on active BIG-IP device.
Knowledge Article
Summary

This monitor checks the percentage of available pool members in a pool. The alert will be triggered, if the percentage of available pool members drops to the warning or critical threshold. A pool member is considered unavailable when its state is either RED, YELLOW, BLUE or BLACK.

Pool member states:

Green State The Pool member is available.
Red State The pool member is unavailable because the parent node is down, or a monitor has marked the pool member as down.
Blue State The pool member has no monitor associated with it, or no monitor results are available yet.
Yellow State The pool member is unavailable, but could become available later with no user interaction required.
Black State The pool member is set to disabled.

When all pool members are unavailable, the pool will be unavailable as well.

This monitor does not generate critical alerts by default. To enable critical alerts, set the “Enable Critical Alert” parameter to “true” and update the “Critical Threshold” parameter accordingly.

This monitor does not trigger an alert in case all pool members are in the black (disabled) state.

Note: This monitor works only for BIG-IP devices 12.0 or newer.

Black State Ignore With this parameter you can define how disabled pool members (black state) impact the percentage of available pool members calculation. When this parameter is set to false, the percentage of available pool members is calculated with the following formula: (number of available pool members / number of all pool members) * 100 When this parameter is set to true, the pool members in the black state (disabled) are excluded from the calculation. The calculation is done with the following formula: (number of available pool members / (number of all pool members – number of pool members in black state)) * 100 Default value is false.
Blue State Available If this parameter is set to true, pool members with the blue state will be interpreted as available, otherwise they will be interpreted as unavailable. Default value is false.
Critical Threshold Determines the percentage of functioning pool members in a pool that, when reached or is dropped below, generates a critical alert. Default value is 10.
Warning Threshold Determines the percentage of functioning pool members in a pool that, when reached or is dropped below, generates a warning alert. Default value is 50.
Enable Critical Alert Defines whether the critical alert will be triggered once the percentage is dropped below the critical threshold. True - alert will be triggered when the number of available pool members drops to the critical threshold. False - alert will not be triggered when the number of available pool members drops to the critical threshold. Default value is false.
Alert Name Percentage of available pool members in a pool is low.
Alert Message Pool {0} is not performing at its peak or has completely ceased functioning. The percentage of available pool members in the pool has reached or dropped below the {1} threshold. Percentage of available pool members: {2} % BIG-IP Device: {3}
